USB-C™ – All in one, simple, fast, universal, rotation proof.

When owning multiple devices, you need multiple cables and adapters. The new USB type C™ changes that. USB-C™ was created with the intention to have one cable for all your devices. To make that possible, it forwards not only data, but also audio and video signals and power for charging your mobile phones and laptops. The USB-C™ is not the classic USB-port that just connects your keyboard or mouse with the computer. It also acts as a display port for external screens and HDMI™ TV-s. It could replace the 3.5mm headphone and charging ports on the phone. The technology works with most operating systems, like macOS, Android, Windows, Google, and others.

The USB-C™ was developed by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) which consists of over 700 leading electronics companies, like Apple, Intel, Dell, HP, Microsoft, and so on. The specification was first published in August of 2014.

USB-IF gave USB-C™ the following charactrization:

  • A small and comfortable plug suitable for mobile devices, yet powerful and durable enough for laptops and tablets.

  • Compared to earlier versions, USB-C™ does not have to be rotated to a certain side in order to plug it.

  • Supports a scale of power supplies, making it time proof.

USB-C™ is something more than just a new direction in technology, it is a new standard. It will be used more and more in the future and it is used in most newer mobile devices and laptops. The technology supports a power of 100W and a current up to 5A. The cable can also forward an Ultra HD video signal at 4K resolution. The new USB-C has a different design from the older USB types which means it does not work with older USB sockets. That does not mean you have to replace your devices that are not compatible with the type C™. There are different adapters to ensure compatibility between devices.

Thunderbolt ™ 3 and USB-C ™.

Thunderbolt™ 3 is probably the most useful protocol that USB-C™ supports. It is a powerful interface that is capable of very fast data transfer with speeds up to 40 Gbit/s. Thunderbolt™ 3 is used with both USB-C™ and Mini DisplayPort sockets.
Each USB-C™ cable is not a Thunderbolt™ 3 cable. Thunderbolt™ 3 cables
can be recognized by the lightning symbols. The compatible sockets are marked in the same way. Each Thunderbolt™ 3 port is compatible with USB 3.1 protocol, and it is considered an universal interface, as it combines charging, data transfer, and audio and video transfer at high resolutions.
